WORD TO YO MOTHER.

May 5th, 2010  |  Published in Travel by Raggedy Ann  |  6 Comments

I just got back from the city of Melbourne, and thought I’d share a story with you that happened to me that could save you from the humiliation and late fees I experienced at the wonderfully paranoid Sydney airport on my way to Melb.

Track back three weeks prior to my trip, if you will, on a casual Saturday. Whilst I was working we got a new delivery of accessories in, I sift through and find we have these really cool cap rings, similar to knuckle dusters, tis two rings fused together with little triangles on the top for a bit of character. So I took a pair, bought them and wore them around, enjoying the compliments.

Fast Forward, 25th of April, 8:00 PM

Travelling back home from my bf’s, I realise I have forgotten my beloved cap rings at his house, so I called him, made him travel back, grab my rings to bring them for me the next day for our planned trip to Melbs.

Fast forward further, 26th of April, 5.30 AM, Sydney Airport.

Everything is fine and dandy, woke up extra early arrived to the airport an hour prior to my flight, thinking WOOO! I’m here on time Im’a be in Melbs in no time!

Check in took 10 minutes, bag drop took half a minute and then it was time to enter through the beepy doors to check if we had any dangerous goods and metals. I take off my seven or eight rings, walk through all clear and then……. “Excuse me miss what is this??!!” Security guard man handles me and drags me to the side holding my cap rings in his hands.

I look towards my BF and think, WTF.. lol this must be a fucking joke. He then proceeds to tell me to collect my bags and step aside while he calls the AFP on me. The AFP came down to tell me that the rings in my possession are in fact a highly recommended illegal weapon.

And the process begins, Questions flying, “you have the right to remain silent” was said, I was forced to withdraw my name from my flight and miss it, had to book and pay a late fee for another flight, my rings were confiscated off me, I was ordered to let General Pants, Co know the situation and order them to ease all purchasing of these illegal weapons. And after all that I was told I will be needed in court to justify why I had these weapons on the premises. FUCK! Missed the flight, got to Melbourne later than anticipated, all motivation and excitement flew out the window, and most of all I couldn’t show off my rings in the underground city!

Blah blah blah….Just today i got a call saying I could finally pick up my beloved rings. This is just a wee story of how fucked up and immensely paranoid this nation has become. All in all I greatly enjoy telling this story, but having to put up with being treated like a fucking criminal for my jewellery was not that fun at the time.

So just a heads up, DO NOT PURCHASE THE GENERAL PANTS AGENT 99 PYRAMID RINGS, you will get stopped at customs. HA!

FUCKERS.

They DRAGGGGGGGGGGEDD you! That is horrible. I don’t even know if they are allowed to do that!

I forgot that I had a butter knife in my bag at Barcelona airport, they just shook their heads at me and threw it out. Also carried a screwdriver from Sydney to Perth without a hassle, although it could have been a phillips head, not too sure.

But I can definitely see how they would think that a ring was such a heinous illegal weapon.

    Boils my blood Miss Ann.
